Excel links: update every chart in the deck in one click

Deckcell’s Excel add-in links a worksheet range to a chart in PowerPoint. When the numbers change, click Update links to redraw the linked charts on the slide or in the whole deck. The link follows the range when rows or columns are inserted above it.

A combination chart linked to a worksheet range.

How it works

  1. In Excel, select the range (labels in the first column, header on top) and click Link to chart in the Deckcell pane. Save the workbook.
  2. Copy the workbook code from the Excel pane and paste it once in PowerPoint, under Link to Excel range.
  3. Pick the range and insert the chart.
  4. When the numbers change, click Update links on slide or Update all links.

Decks can read, not write

A chart stores only the workbook’s read code. Anyone with the deck can refresh it but can’t change the workbook’s numbers.

Revoke any time

New code in the Excel pane replaces the key and cuts off the old read code.

Follows the range

Links are Excel bindings, so they move when rows or columns are inserted.

Catches up

When the Excel pane opens, it re-sends every linked range, so edits made while it was closed arrive.

Frequently asked questions

Do Excel links work on Mac and in PowerPoint on the web?

Yes. Both add-ins talk to Deckcell’s server, so links behave the same on Windows, Mac and the web.

Do Excel links work in Google Slides?

Not yet. In Google Slides, paste data into the datasheet or import CSV.

Does the workbook have to be open to update a chart?

No. PowerPoint reads the last values the Excel pane sent. Open the workbook (and its Deckcell pane) to send new ones.
